The bite is typically very good from late Spring to mid-November.
Striped Bass are a heavily regulated fish. 2 fishing seasons are offered in which anglers may keep the fish. The dates are May 16-June 15 and October 4 - December 31. Limits are one per person per day. Any striped bass caught out of season are strictly catch and release. The fall striped bass season tends to produce larger fish than the spring season.
Blue catfish are allowed to be kept year round with no limits on size and quantity.
Our most common trip is the Half Day Trip.

The Upper James River is very well known for the giant Blue Catfish. With fish caught all the way up to 90 pounds, when a "Big Blue" bites, grab the rod and hang on! We specifically target Blue Catfish 30 pounds and up. The 30 pound mark is the minimum size of a trophy fish. We will also target smaller blue cats at the same time if you would like to keep some to take home. (All blue cats over 20 pounds are released to keep the fishery sustainable)
Blue cats are available to fish year round with the exception of when they are spawning. Typically blue cats spawn from early June to mid/end July. Specific spawning times are determined by water temperature.
Due to the heat, July through mid-September trips are scheduled starting at 6 PM.
The large Blue Catfish bite is a slower bite. 5 or 6 trophy sized fish in a full day trip is considered an "epic" day. With that in mind, we STRONGLY recommend groups of no more than 3 guests.
Our most common trip is the Full Day Trip.

Launching from Kingsmill Marina gives us the opportunity to run down river to fish salt water species or up river to fish giant blue catfish. There is also a good fall season bite for Striped Bass. This area of fishing is constantly changing due to tides, rain & water salinity. Typically in the summer we will see a much larger salt content in the water, offering up more salt water species within the vicinity of Kingsmill Marina.
Due to the vast variety of changing conditions and species of fish, please contact us if you are interested in the current fishing conditions.
Launching out of Kingsmill also the unique opportunity to view the Jamestown Settlement from the water, see the U.S. Navy's ghost fleet and some other historical locations. We will gladly take you to these sites if you would like a visit.

Fishing the Chesapeake Bay is quite the experience! The Chesapeake Bay offers up an unprecedented amount of species for much of the year. We encourage that anglers have at least an intermediate level of experience due to the open water & bigger swells. Due to the fact that we make runs of 15 - 20 miles, we only offer full day trips.
Once Cobia & Spade fish start biting , our most common trips includes targeting a combination of Cobia and Spade fish. These trips typically run from mid-June to end of July. Tautog are fished at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and we tend to see them at the end of Winter/beginning of Spring depending on water temperature.
